Zhumadian Central Hospital was established in 1965. It is a comprehensive third-level hospital that integrates medical treatment, emergency care, teaching, scientific research, prevention, health care, and rehabilitation. It has a complete range of specialties and advanced facilities and equipment, based in the central region and radiating to southern Henan. It is a teaching hospital affiliated with Huanghuai University, Zhengzhou University Medical School, and Xinxiang Medical College, and a non-directly affiliated hospital of Henan University Medical School.

The hospital has 73 clinical departments, 18 medical technology departments, and 113 sub-specialties; it has 2,500 beds in total, with 3,000 inpatient beds open. The annual total number of outpatient visits is 1.6 million, with 120,000 discharges and 45,000 surgeries performed each year. The chest pain center ranked in the top 20 in the national chest pain construction ranking in 2021, and the stroke center ranked 8th in the national advanced stroke center comprehensive capability ranking in 2021. The construction of the stroke green channel is at an advanced level both domestically and internationally, with a one-click activation mode promoted nationwide. In the 2021 national public hospital performance assessment for third-level hospitals, it ranked 263rd, with a national monitoring index level of A, a CMI national ranking of 224th, and a national ranking of 210th for the number of level four surgeries. In the first half of 2022, it ranked fourth among comprehensive hospitals in Henan Province based on DRG performance assessment for third-level hospitals. In the 2021 Alipay China Hospital Competitiveness Ranking, it ranked 137th among city-level hospitals.

The hospital is equipped with advanced medical equipment, including a 320-row 640-layer spiral CT, 3.0T and 1.5T magnetic resonance imaging machines, mobile CT vehicles, Siemens quantum dual-source CT, large vascular angiography machines (C-arm), Spet-CT, linear accelerators, three-dimensional and four-dimensional color ultrasound, various electronic endoscopes, BD8 channel flow cytometers, Sysmex blood routine analyzers, coagulation analyzers, and other large-scale international and domestic advanced medical devices. The information system includes 105 functional modules such as HIS, EMR, LIS, PACS, digital signatures, BI, and CDSS, which have been built and put into use, with over 2,000 workstations deployed.
